FIRST AID Course Sydney

First Aid, (HLTAID003 Provide First Aid) This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to provide a first aid response to a casualty. The first aid course applies to all workers who may be required to provide a first aid response in a range of situations, including community and workplace setting. This course was also previously known as Apply First Aid, Senior First Aid, or Level 2.

The first aid course is fully accredited nationally recognised training. This qualification can be used in all States and Territories throughout Australia.

​This qualification is considered the industry standard for a range of workplace roles and employment categories. It is also required if you are considering entry into the Police Force, Corrective Services, Ambulance Service and/or to study Nursing. It is the minimum qualification for workplace First Aid Officers if you are being appointed to that role.

Course Entry Requirements

There are no formal entry requirements for this course, however it is expected that students have good communication skills, the ability to follow instruction and deal with stressful, confronting situations.

You may be obtaining First Aid qualifications as an accompanying unit to broader study in a specific field. Be sure you check to confirm if any state or federal licensing requirements apply to your study field. For example studying to become a Security Officer requires you to have First Aid, but you also require a National Police Check clearance.

HLTAID003 Provide First Aid is about dealing with real life situations that may involve you and close family or friends. The training will expose you to conditions and scenarios that could be confronting to some. So we ask that you come prepared to face situations which can be challenging for some. we recommend candidates to be age of 15 and over.

  • The practical components, particularly CPR, now require a candidate to perform CPR on a manikin on the floor in a kneeling position so clients need to be advised that they may find this difficult if they have problems physically with their knees.

Duration & structure

This course is a mix mod delivery course. Online theory and face to face class environment.

You must complete your online theory component prior to attending face to face class. Pre course theory learning and assessment is approx. 8 Hrs. Theory work book will be sent to you electronically upon enrolment. Face to face classroom-based learning practical session is for at least 7 Hours in our training venue in Sydney, NSW. 9:30 AM to 4:30 PM

You will conduct a range of simulated activities, work in small groups, please make sure you wear closed end shoes, and you will need to complete a written assessment at the end of the course to be deemed competent. Throughout the day you will also complete formative activities leading up to your final assessment.

You will need to have Basic English language and literacy skills to complete this course successfully.

Course Unit

This course is a single Unit of Competency in HLTAID003 Provide First Aid. You will however cover a number of conditions and their signs and symptoms and how to treat them.

  • Envenomation (Bites and Stings)
  • Fractures and soft tissue injury

  • Asthma and respiratory distress
  • Epilepsy and seizures
  • Abdominal injuries
  • Burns and scalds
  • Cardiac conditions
  • Diabetes
  • Head, neck and spinal injuries
  • Stroke
  • Use of an auto. injector. Epi . pen
  • Use of an auto. inhaler and spacing device
  • Poisoning


Once Student successfully complete the course student will be awarded a statement of attainment for the unit of competency HLTAID003 Provide First Aid. The Australian Resuscitation Council (ARC) recommends a refresher for CPR annually and full qualification at least every three years.
